Large-Scale Works in Public Spaces

Numerous large-scale works by Oscar Piattella are installed in public spaces. Among these, while the process of archiving his extensive production continues, a selection is highlighted here.

Pesaro, Council Chamber of the Municipality of Pesaro

The Polittico per Pesaro of 2020 (acrylic on panel, 301 × 252 cm) was the first work of art to be installed in the municipal Council Chamber. This took place in a public ceremony on 31 March 2022 (the day on which the artist turned 90), following the announcement that Pesaro had been awarded the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2024, symbolically opening the path towards that milestone.

Leonardo da Vinci Airport, Business Center, Fiumicino – Rome

The Progetto per una struttura bianca of 1980 (various materials on wood, 90 x 300 x 6 cm) prompted Miklós N. Varga to write in 1982: “Piattella ‘reconstructs’ part of the architectural structure, then surrenders to a free, visionary auscultation of the object […]. Architectures of earth and dust, signs of light and shadow, stones and marbles, orthogonal and pyramidal walls of history for a ‘dwelling of immortality’ that cannot be true yet, perhaps precisely for this reason, gleams with transparent expectation ‘on the way’”.
